Shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday night, officers were called to investigate a reported single-car crash involving a disabled vehicle driven by a Hispanic man who walked away from the crash scene and collapsed near the old Washington Adventist Hospital.

He appeared to have a gunshot wound to his leg when he was found.

According to a witness, a front seat passenger fled the scene, though a canvas of the area by Park Police and the Montgomery County Police Department's K9 Unit did not lead to his discovery.

The victim, police say, was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting incident may have happened at a different location, and the victim and passenger drove to the area where the crash occurred.

There is not believed to be any threat to public safety.

No additional details about the victim or passenger were provided by the department. The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting, crash, or events leading up to it has been asked to contact detectives by calling (301) 270-1100.
